Rani Mukerji in a still from Mardaani 2. Rani Mukerji's Mardaani 2 could not have come at a better time. But then, a good time for a revenge drama where the cops are chasing a serial rapist and a murderer is a bad time for the rest of the country. Gopi Puthran weaves a gripping tale and he doesn't loosen the grip through the whole of the 1-hour-45-minute run time of the film. And that right there is Mardaani 2's biggest win. The tight screenplay leaves room for our Hindi film heroine's stray hair because she is not just a pretty Bollywood face, but has no space for one stray scene, emotion, line or expression. As Gopi Puthran moves from the writer's position in Mardaani (2014) to the director's chair in Mardaani 2, Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani) and the story move from Mumbai to Kota, Rajasthan. Kota here plays a significant role, but contrary to the protests that mushroomed claiming the film is trying to malign the image Kota has, the city remains a symbol. It represents a mindset; a mindset we women have struggled with far too long - the battle of staying within our 'aukaat. ' Kota Police, therefore, struggles to take orders from a woman - Shivani, while Sunny (Vishal Jethwa), the prime antagonist, struggles to accept 'No' for an answer. And it is this inability of his that escalates and sets the ball rolling. Watch Mardaani 2 trailer here: Credit to Puthran, and both Mardaanis, for that matter, for sketching negative characters as ruthless as Sunny, or Karan (Tahir Raj Bhasin in Mardaani). Sunny of Mardaani 2 has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He is evil to the bone. And Puthran or the narrative doesn't apologise for him. Sunny is driven by a feudal mindset - the one which demands women stay within their 'aukaat. ' Sunny tortures women because he can overpower them with his physical strength. His ultimate kick is causing women maximum hurt - something that goes beyond physical hurt in his mind - hurting their 'honour. ' But then, he doesn't stop at that. He turns their embarrassment into a spectacle - hanging his half-dead, bleeding, near-mangled victim by a noose for all to find. Of course, he wants credit et al. For a moment there, you will be reminded of Mindhunters, and a chill will run down your spine. On the flipside is Shivani, a straight-talking cop who puts her job before her gender, even while the rest of the world can't. She knows men at the top will get away with being bossy (read: harsh, short-tempered or just plain cruel) but a woman has to keep massaging egos. Except, she doesn't care. And both actors deliver, and how! Rani Mukerji may have the might of perhaps the biggest and strongest production house in India, but with every performance, she proves that she doesn't take it for granted. In Mardaani 2, she's once again silenced naysayers, if any. Vishal Jethwa takes your breath away - like you're looking at Fear Incarnate. He, in places, outshines Rani, even though both characters are equally strongly written. The entire film is shouldered on these two, and while other characters are made available for support, the actors are hardly given the scope to do anything more. The storyline is something that caters to the majority of the audience. That scene where Shivani whips away at Sunny with a belt as the camera is panned at her from below (we've seen it in the trailer, so no spoilers here) is disturbing but strangely satisfying. It is perhaps the same 'satisfaction' that makes people take to the streets and say 'Hyderabad Police Zindabaad' when the rapists of the Telangana veterinarian are shot dead in an 'encounter'. There are muffled cheers for Shivani across the semi-packed theatre on the first day, first show. But the film leaves so much out that it is almost heartbreaking when it ends. Only 1 hour 45 minutes down, we could have invested another 15 or 20 minutes if only Mardaani 2 had gone that far. Sunny personifies the mindset that is plaguing India. He is the rapist. But he is also a pawn in a larger, dirty game. Sadly, the story doesn't even go as far as to expose the men in positions of power who are actually brokering this mindset and finds happiness in catching a small (albeit evil) fish. Granted the narrative could have gotten preachy, or the film could have gotten lengthy - the bane of all Hindi films anyway. But isn't that the true test of good writing and screenplay? Still, a strong performance-backed film like Mardaani 2 is worth a watch. It will disturb you - but not more than what news reports are already doing to you (or should be). Il se passe plusieurs choses en même temps (en dehors de différentes histoires avec les animaux, des humains veulent cambrioler une banque). Malgré avoir saisi qu’il ne fallait pas faire bande à part, le héros souhaite quand même rester en marge du système, regarder les choses de loin. Importance d’un bon leader Nécessité d’avoir une personne qui commande pour qu’une communauté puisse fonctionner, pour qu’un plan puisse marcher. Danger lorsque le dirigeant est méchant, qu’il ne pense qu’à lui, son pouvoir, qu’il exclut les autres. Critique de celui qui secrètement affame le peuple pour être considéré comme indispensable (et quand le film est en partie sud-coréen, on ne peut s’empêcher de penser à leur voisin). Équipe. Sacrifice Le héros va se laisser choir en bas d’une chute pour sauver ses amis. Il ne veut pas tirer profit de ses actes héroïques, préférant rester en dehors du système. Importance de la femme C’est une femme qui va finir par être leader de la communauté. Une femme ne peut pas être avec un bandit, on va la voir le dénoncer à la police. Le héros va vouloir faire le bien en partie pour plaire à une demoiselle. Critique du narcissique L’écureuil qui se croit beau est plutôt à côté de la plaque. On critique celui qui s’approprie les réussites des autres. Une juste loi On ne condamne pas sans procès. Critique du leader, du peuple, emportés par leurs émotions qui posent un verdict sans avoir fait le procès (critique de celui qui sait bien parler et embobiner). Honnêteté. Quand on pose un marché, il faut le tenir. Importance d’honorer ses promesses. On ne peut pas faire confiance à un bandit, celui-ci trahit tout le monde. Autour du vol. Intéressant de ressentir que le vol projeté par les bandits c’est mal, mais ce que veulent dérober les écureuils, cela ne pose pas de problème. Estime de soi Une personne qui se sent insignifiante ne pense qu’à lui, et pour devenir un héros, l’écureuil va devoir comprendre qu’il est quelqu’un de bien. SCÈNES DIFFICILES Mises en danger Chienne qui tente d’attraper l’écureuil. Solo envoie un chariot enflammé sur le précieux chêne où se trouvaient les réserves de tous les animaux, celui-ci prend feu. Suite de tension en pleine ville où Solo est confronté à différents dangers. Solo se fait tirer dessus. L’oiseau rouge, sbire de raton est increvable, il revient toujours à la charge. Échapper de justesse à une explosion, être maintenue par un bras, mais finalement tomber en bas du barrage et risquer d’être écrasé par un fourgon, et risquer d’être envoyé en bas de chute (la fin du film joue sur une suite de tensions). Malaise La nourriture est insuffisante pour passer l’hiver. On réalise que des étincelles risquent de faire exploser un bâton de dynamite, après l’avoir lancé, la stupide chienne va le rapporter. Le travail des animaux a été défait par les humains. Personne ne reconnaît le sauvetage effectué par Solo. Le gentil chef de la communauté est en fait un dictateur qui n’hésite pas à affamer son peuple ou à faire disparaître les personnes gênantes. Raton montre son vrai visage au moment où Andie s’excusait. Le chef des malfrats menace ses hommes avec une arme, puis envoie un véhicule contre la police (bourré d’explosif avec à l’intérieur les héros). Tristesse Tout le monde vote unanimement pour le bannissement, Solo doit partir à jamais, sans oser mettre la patte dans le parc. Solo rejette son ami, et se retrouve seul en ville. Solo dit que son copain ne sert à rien, moment de tristesse quand il part seul. Sacrifice de Solo, on le croit mort emporté par une chute, et quand on le retrouve il est inconscient sur la rive, on le croit toujours mort. Personnages dénigrants Un vendeur de noisettes agressif, une petite fille scoute criarde et revancharde. L’écureuil perçoit les pigeons comme des pondeurs de nourriture. Personnages dénigrés. La chienne est montrée comme stupide, on se moque d’elle. On se moque des gros balèzes surtout intéressés à péter ou roter. Banalisation de la violence Les rires sont pensés sur le malheur des protagonistes (décharges électriques, tomber). Visuel effrayant Rat à l’allure malsaine, hétérochromie, grosses dents, sales. Les bandits ont des mines patibulaires. Peur en sursaut quand dans un sifflement le héros est subitement maintenu par des rats. Le raton laveur ressort de l’eau quand on croyait que tout était enfin terminé. VOCABULAIRE Quelques vulgarités ou argots (dégage, bouge-toi. ). Ce n’est pas pour les plus jeunes, un film avec gangsters armés en parallèle d’une histoire de noisettes qui comporte un leader qui cache sa méchanceté. Effet de rot et surtout de pet pour faire rire. Avec générique Gangnam Style à la fin, cela donne le ton. Le gag final est presque la chose la plus intéressante du film. Il existe une suite.

A classic Fellini comedy, with all the atmosphere of a carnival that fans expect. Brunella Bovo is lovely, naive, well-meaning, but lead astray by a philandering playboy. Meanwhile, her new husband seems doomed to appear utterly insane to his family who has come to Rome to meet his blushing bride- suddenly disappeared. Charming, funny, what's not to love? Oh, and Guilietta Masina arrives in her role as the kind and sensual Cabiria- icing on the cake! While certainly not the greatest Fellini film on record, it makes for pleasant viewing. Yes, the behavior of the characters is hardly exemplary, but then, would that be entertaining.

Two young newlyweds from a provincial town, Wanda (Brunella Bovo) and Ivan Cavalli (Leopoldo Trieste) arrive in Rome for their honeymoon. Wanda is obsessed with the "White Sheik" Alberto Sordi) the Rudolph Valentino-like hero of a soap opera photo strip and sneaks off to find him, leaving her conventional, petit bourgeois husband in hysterics as he tries to hide his wife's disappearance from his strait-laced relatives who are waiting to go with them to visit the Pope.
"The White Sheik" was Fellini's first solo effort as a director. He had previously co-directed "Variety Lights" in 1950 with Alberto Lattuada. Of course, we know now that Fellini went on to be one of the world's biggest directors and Lattuada is forgotten. And this is a solid effort, both fun and funny. Some have compared it to Chaplin, which is an exaggeration, there's definitely a promising career showcased here.
The plot line was re-used by Woody Allen in his film "To Rome with Love" not one of his bigger films. But it is always nice to see Allen pay tribute to his heroes, Fellini and Bergman.

Set in 1904 just prior to the World's Fair coming to St Louis, it shows the importance of family, and that the pursuit of money/status is not the aim of people, as represented by the move to New York and living in an apartment as opposed to a large (several generations old) family home in a 'small' city.
The best scenes in the movie (apart from the aforementioned songs) are the Halloween scene which (if you see it from the child's viewpoint) are what scary is all about; and the scene when the girls are preparing for the dance and planning their assault on the eligible boys to keep 'that Lucille Ballard' unattached.
Loved the tying of the corsets, which shows women's fashion has NEVER been based on being comfortable.
Perfect to watch at Christmas time or when you're feeling depressed.

What a great movie. She sings this so lovely, the best. OMG, her face. 1:32 Also, that dress looks so good on her. I ❤ 1950's. Curling iron invented I 1866, Hiram maxim got first patent. Ohh... I know! The movie is on TCM right now and I just watched this scene. It's very touching.

Although I'm very fond of this movie, and rate it highly, I can see why it might not be to everyone's taste. The values it appears to espouse, and to imply are universal, are underpinned by other, unspoken principals that today might stick in the craw. For example, although there are no black faces in the film, Skip to my Lou" and "Under the Bamboo Tree" both refer in an unthinking and somewhat patronising way to non-white cultures. On a different critical tack, none of women in the film show the slightest inclination to move beyond the home. You might reply to these criticisms, with justification, that they err in applying liberal stances of our own day to those of both St Louis 1903 and Hollywood 1944. But, as I say, I can see the objections.
Nonetheless, I am both impressed and moved whenever I watch Meet Me In St Louis. Impressed by the beautiful camera-work, the splendidly crafted sets and costumes, and the excellent performances. Moved by the result of the underlying structure, taking us through a year from one Spring to another, through the fear of encroaching night of Autumn, into the darkness of Winter, and out the other side. And moved, too, by the honour of the characters. When June Lockhart's Lucille Ballard turns out to be the very opposite of the Smith girls' vision of an East Coast snob, they are forced to change their unworthy little plan. The ensuing scene is one of the highlights of the picture for me, as Judy Garland's Esther, put on the spot by her grandfather (wonderful Harry Davenport) pays the price for her and her sister's meanness of spirit, and is rewarded by the unexpected appearance of her true love.
Yes, maybe these comfortable people in their big house can afford to be big-hearted. But that's the way symbolic drama has always worked: Oedipus and Lear are kings so that their fall is all the greater. This is the key to the inevitably more modest Meet Me In St Louis, but nonetheless the film is amazingly ambitious on its own terms, and teaches its moral lessons well, particularly so in the ballroom episode I've described above, but elsewhere too: for example, when Leon Ames's Alonzo witnesses his youngest daughter's extreme distress at the thought of leaving St Louis, and finds a way out of the situation in which he has dumped himself and his family, and thus demoting the economic values he has put before the happiness of his nearest and dearest.
But it isn't all morals. The emotional heart of Meet Me In St Louis is the relationship between sisters Esther and Tootie, played by the headliners Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien. This finds its climax in the heart-rending "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" which I have watched through tears on many occasions. Situated in the depths of winter, it is a lament for hope defeated by loss, simply filmed, magnificently acted - especially by the amazing O'Brien - and perfect in every way.
Don't let my 8 out of 10 fool you: Meet Me In St Louis is a wonderful piece of work. I concede the two points firstly because "Skip to my Lou" which does nothing for the story, should have been completely re-thought or, ideally, cut; and secondly because, in the 21st century, the idealisation of the family's world has lost some of its power - especially when you consider author Sally Benson made her screen debut a year earlier working on the dialogue for a somewhat more critical celebration of mid-West life, Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt. As we've seen, it's not as if darkness doesn't inhabit the world of Meet Me In St Louis, in particular that of Tootie, who imagines she has killed someone, that someone has tried to kill her, that Katie the maid (the incomparable Marjorie Main) has killed her cat, and so on. But today the no-place-like-home/love-conquers-all message of this wartime fantasy, no matter how brilliantly it is realised, sits as uneasily with us as, say, Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew does.
The fact that I can happily discuss Meet Me In St Louis in the same breath as great works of drama demonstrates to me that whatever reservations I, or others, may have, it is still a magnificent achievement, and an undoubted masterpiece of American cinema.

I think the trailer doesn't prepare us for how sad it's going to be, like your name

Found this on accident looking for Migos Portland. I typed ride your wave lol. Hinako is a surfer, Minato is a firefighter. Both about 20 and they fall in love. Everything is ridiculously perfect, but one day Minato drowns while trying to save someone from the ocean.
Hinako, understandably takes it pretty bad, but to her surprise, whenever she starts singing their favorite song, Minato's spirit appears in the closest body of water - be it a stream, the ocean, or a bottle of mineral water.
The whole story is really about Hinako, Minato's friends and family, and how they slowly but finally learn to "let go.
Of course, it's magical-realism, so in the end we get to witness some crazy action as well, where we surf down a skyscraper with our protagonists.
Unfortunately, this is not the most original story, the characters are a little two dimensional, and the filmmaking could've been a little braver.
It's fine though, the film looks really nice, colorful with constantly glowing orange hues and cool blues. The action looks fantastic as well and the environments feel very "lived in" and detailed. Seeing it on a big screen really adds to the experience.
It is also paced well, has some pretty funny moments, as well as a couple of quite moving ones.
Recommended if you manage to catch it screening somewhere, but not an essential viewing.

The kids were belly laughing through nearly the entire movie and no one in our group got scared. A great resource to use for reviews is You can search the title of a movie/book/game, the review will tell you all of the language, sexual content, drug and alcohol use, violent content and frightening scenes. We use it for every movie before we go and watch something. It gives a much more unbiased review of things. Everyone has different standards and everyone’s child(ren) are at different places and it’s hard to make decisions based off of personal decisions. For example: had I read the review above and saw that someone’s 9 year old was frightened in some parts, we wouldn’t have taken our group. On the other hand if someone saw that my group of 3-7 year olds didn’t get scared, and they take their four year old and they are frightened, it’s no good for the four year old or parent(s). In his first non-Iron Man role since 2014’s “The Judge, ” Downey adopts a subdued and distracted accent of elusive Welsh or Scottish origin (one character refers to it as “his lean in, lean in, I’m saying something interesting voice”) and fashions a character who’s variously scatterbrained, brilliant, dramatic, sympathetic, and occasionally infuriating. In other words, Downey’s characterization as Dolittle will need to satisfy his legions of fans until he returns to performing in more serious roles. February 3, 2020 Format: Prime Video Three adults - my son, my spouse, and I went to see this in theaters, mostly because I found the over-the-top snarky critical pans super annoying and didn't think they told me anything about the actual production. My 28 year old son thought it was OK and definitely worth seeing at least once, my spouse generally liked it but had a few quibbles with historical consistency, and I liked it perfectly well and would watch it again. I do think there are a few stylistic inconsistencies that keep it from being a truly great movie, but it's a *good* movie, and so I encourage folks to disregard the easy snarky disdain of irresponsible critics. The movie follows a picarescque story tradition rather than action-adventure or hero's journey traditions that are most popular today: that choice is consistent with the stylistic era of Lofting's book series. The target audience is families, and there are messages about self-acceptance and it being OK to feel afraid etc. that are geared towards young people, but adults may appreciate them too. Robert Downey is an excellent comic as well as dramatic actor, with great physical comedy skills and he does not fail to impress again with his range. The vocal talent is suited to the characters played, though the various American regional accents were inconsistent with the overall early Victorian setting (one of those choices I found strange and inconsistent). There did seem to be some tendency to mix "toddler humor" with nuanced dramatic moments, and there was no clear concept or strategy that I could see of when to engage in historically authentic choices and when to toss any kind of historical approach to the winds (the accents as mentioned earlier, for example). However, having said all that, take it for what it is, don't expect it to be a Kevin Feige film or anything else, and enjoy the lovely visuals, the fantastic FX, the charm, Downey's great comedic and dramatic skills, and the good humor of the overall production. Dolittle and Stubbins, his apprentice/assistant, and various animal friends go on a quest to find a special tree. They need the fruit of the tree to cure a very sick young queen. Their adventures and their friendships are marvelous! The movie went by in a flash - I never once looked at my watch. And it's not just for kids (who will love it) but every age can enjoy it. I plan to see it again. Be sure you stay for the cleverly done acting credits. We loved that, too!
